Karel Abraham won the first points ever in a new class Moto2
Karel Abraham started after Saturday's not very succesful qualification from sixth row. His qualifying time was 23rd. Even Sunday's warm up did not sound too optimistic - twenty years old Karel rode 34th time. The team tried a new setting, but it did not work, so Karel had to return to Friday's settings of RSV machine. Sunday´s evening battle brought huge drama from the beggining. Several rivals fell on the track. Fortunately Karel only slightly dropped in the crowd of riders. But then in the middle of the race, he started to fight and he already rode among the first twenty riders. He managed to keep a brisk pace until the end, so that gradually made it to the places where he could get points. He passed the aim as fourteenth rider. Historically, the first winner of the race a new class of Moto2 became Japanese Tomizawa.
Karel Abraham said after the race:
" I was finally satisfied with two points, even if I believed that I will take more of them from Qatar. A pity of Saturday's qualification, it could be much better. Unfortunately, Saturday night was not good and start from the sixth row was very difficult. In the beginning I also have a slightly decreased in the ranking and I was 30th. Then I rode for better result very hardly. I had to rely only on myself. But I slowly erased the loss. I rode well, since half of the race I had very fast wheels and that pushed me to go forward. I commuted opponents and during overtaking I used essentially the fact that I was better on the brakes. "
Karel Abraham is returning home from Qatar. The second race of World Motorcycle Championship, which hosts Japan, should be on Saturday.
